Sunday Bandstand 11 August 2019
King Cotton is a military march composed in 1895 by John Philip Sousa, for the Cotton States and International Exposition (1895). This march has become one of his most popular.
The expression ‘King Cotton’ in general refers to the historically high importance of cotton as a cash crop in the southern United States.
This march has been popular with UK style brass bands around the world for longer than most people can remember. On this week's show this march is featured and performed by Brass Band de Waldsang from the Netherlands conducted b y Rieks van de Velde..
